Leadership Treasure Hunt

LEADERSHIP Series: The Business of Knowing God

Proverbs 2: 1-5 (NIV) My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

Deuteronomy 13: 1-4 (MSG) When a prophet or visionary gets up in your community and gives out a miracle-sign or wonder, and the miracle-sign or wonder that he gave out happens and he says, "Let's follow other gods" (these are gods you know nothing about), "let's worship them," don't pay any attention to what that prophet or visionary says. God, your God, is testing you to find out if you totally love him with everything you have in you. You are to follow only God, your God, hold him in deep reverence, keep his commandments, listen obediently to what he says, serve him—hold on to him for dear life!

Like everything in life, if we have not sold out all for God, we have yet to become truly human.

God is meant to be are all in all – in every single thing. This being conscious of God being “the everything” in all my things is an arduous journey.

I understand because I am full of myself, too. There are all sorts of little things that keep popping up that, in the light of His knowledge are my little treasures. Hard to let those things go. And just when you think you have a handle on finding the knowledge of God, another little bit of personal idolatry crops up.

We were created to have a relationship with our Creator that is so real and meaningful, others want what we have.

Discussion Guide

1. Do you agree or disagree with my first sentence. Defend you answer. Use Scripture to support your position.

2. How is God testing you at work relative to discovery if you totally love him with everything you have in you?

3. If your business is suffering right now, how might God redeem the pain you are experiencing in business?

4. What distracts you from the eternal treasure hunt?

Personal work:
What keeps popping up in your life? Have you given it over to the Lord? How is it interfering with your relationship with your Creator?
